Honey Update

Honey had her spay surgery a few weeks ago. I was so anxious all day and checked on her every free second I had, along with her new mommy, Tammy. We were there when she got her IM shot and started to feel woozy as she sat in Chris's lap. Her actual surgery was done while I was in class, but I heard all about it. It went well, aside from the fact that they lost her(!) for a while, but she pulled through. I checked on her when she was still asleep afterwards in a cage. I was told she was growling in her sleep, so I didn't get too close in case she woke up and bit me because of the anesthetic effects.

A few days later, she had somehow ripped her stitches out. It must have been from her jumping around too much in her cage because she had an E-collar on. So, she had to go back into surgery. This happened another time, and they finally decided to use different sutures. She was also placed in a smaller cage, so she couldn't move around as much. Poor thing.

Another morning I checked on her and noticed her incision site looked swollen, and her bandage had rolled over. I took her out and showed my favorite Lab Assistant, Ms. P, her incision site. She pinched it and fluid came out. I put it on the medical attention log right away, and she was prescribed an antibiotic later that day.

Sidenote: I was not very happy that I had to be the one to do this since I'm not even training her anymore, I just care about her a whole lot, and that the morning kennel leader and surgery team didn't even notice something was wrong that day. I also wasn't too happy that the same thing happened to another dog, and that dog was prescribed antibiotics right after surgery, and Honey wasn't. I didn't want to try to correct the vet right then and there, though. I guess all that matters is that it was all sorted out in the end.

She has been in her tiny cage for a couple weeks now, even without a cone (as of a few days ago) and was just moved back to her big cage today. I'm happy to say she's back to her old self and I will be giving her lots of kisses when I see her again on Monday.
