Winter Break

Today is my last day of a two week long break from school. It was much needed for all of us and I feel quite rejuvenated.

The Friday before our break started was pretty pointless. We had no final exams and we were originally supposed to have this day off according to our schedules. But we need those "contact hours."
So, we spent the day goofing off, wandering Tinley Park, and playing games.

The next day, a bunch of us went to Toni's house for an ugly Christmas sweater party.

I think this video explains the night pretty well.

We also went to Tristan's work's holiday party, which was 20's murder mystery themed. Everyone's costumes looked so great. Here are a couple shots of Ninna and me as we were leaving.

A great deal of my break involved driving for Christmas. We drove to Milwaukee for my mom's immediate family a week before Christmas. On Christmas Eve, we drove to my great uncle's in Lake Forest, and then drove to Tristan's mom's in Rockford that night. We drove to his dad's the next morning, then back to his mom's and then had breakfast with his dad, his stepmom, and his sister the following morning. It was such a busy Christmas, but it was great so see family, eat amazing food, and exchange gifts.

(I love my cousins so much.)

(Our tradition of Christmas crowns lives on for the 3rd year in a row.)

I hung out with a few of my greenies (school friends) one night at the Blue Line bar. Alice, who never drinks, had a mojito. It was fun to see her loosen up a bit. We had to take a picture to get some evidence of this event:
We had loads of yummy appetizers and we gave Clarissa (a former student) a gift basket for her birthday. I only wish I could have hung out with more of my school friends over break. I tried to make plans with my closest friends in the class, Gina and Kaytlyn, but Kaytlyn's work schedule was pretty crazy, and by the time we narrowed it down to a couple days, Gina got in a car accident and totaled her car. The accident was pretty serious, but luckily Gina walked away with only some bruises and scrapes. I'm so glad she's okay.

I also spent a lot of my time babysitting so I could make a little money over break. The first week I watched 2 little boys, who ended up being pretty bratty and didn't seem to be taught that it's okay for boys to like colors like pink and purple (something I will be instilling in my children.) They were also pretty bossy for being 6 and 4 years old. I couldn't even make mac and cheese without getting yelled at because their mom does it differently. Luckily, I was able to watch Harper the second week of break. Harper is a darling little girl I have watched since she was 3-months-old. She just celebrated her 2nd birthday a few weeks ago, and I'm so happy I can still babysit her from time to time. She was so excited when I showed up on Tuesday; it was adorable. We had fun coloring, watching Annie 6 or 7 times, running around, and going to the Children's Museum at Navy Pier. I love that little girl so much.

My friend of many years, Mike, came to visit this past Friday. He unfortunately hit some bad traffic on the way in from WI, but he made it eventually. We went out to eat at Pei Wei, got some coffee at Wormhole, and then came back home and had a beer while we watched Wipeout. I'm so glad I got to hang out with him!

New Years was spent with our friends Sean and Ninna. We went out to eat at a really nice sushi restaurant called Sushi Wabi. It was so delicious and I had mochi ice cream for dessert. :) We stopped at the liquor store for some wine, beer, and cider and then came back to our place to watch some tv and hang out. Ninna and I started passing out on the couch around 2 am, so we all went to bed. We had breakfast in the morning at one of my favorite local spots, Bite Cafe, before we dropped them back off at their car and said our good byes.

I go back to school tomorrow and I'm both excited to get back into the swing of things and be closer to finishing, but not excited about getting up early, spending way too much money on gas, and having no life and being super stressed out. I hope I can try to handle the stress better in the new year. I'll leave you with some of my resolutions:

  1. Think positively
  2. Get a job
  3. Let go of negative people and let in good people
  4. Limit internet time to 1 hour per day
  5. Start homework the day it's assigned
  6. Get all A's and B's
  7. Clean once a week
  8. Exercise at least once a week
  9. Develop better eating habits
  10. Organize closet and drop clothes at Goodwill when needed
  11. Communicate, be honest, be open
  12. Be true to myself
  13. Start paying off bills ASAP
