Milwaukee

Tristan and I went to Milwaukee on Sunday afternoon to go spend some time with our puppy and my family and to see our friends Dre and Joel before they move.


First, we walked Honey and Molly around at the park with my mom. Honey was so sleepy that she took a nap under a bench for a while.
Then we grabbed lunch in Cedarburg before heading back to my dad's with Honey. Once we got there, we met the new neighbors and their three huskies. One of them was just a puppy and he was so cute!

I almost had tears in my eyes when it was time to say goodbye to Honey again. She was yelping as we got in the car without her. She'll be staying with us for a week soon, though, and then she'll be all ours in about 3 months.



Next, we headed to Dre and Joel's in Milwaukee and were greeted with big hugs. Life has been so busy and we haven't been able to hang out nearly as much as we'd like. We grabbed some dinner with them at a local favorite, Comet, and then headed back to their place for a movie and some fun conversation.

The next morning, we walked to get brunch at Hotch-a-Do, only to find that they are remodeling for 2 months! So, we walked further to Cafe Hollander for some yummy food outside.

I love hanging out with these people so much and I'm sad that it's going to be happening a lot less often because of their big move, but I'm so happy for them to be starting this new chapter in their lives.

We made plans to see them one more time before they move. It's going to be bittersweet.

Before we headed back home to Chicago, we met up with my friend Lauren. We had some gelato outside before it started to rain and then we headed inside where everyone but me had aloe juice. (I'm so weird about the texture of some foods.)




It's always nice to take a trip to Wisconsin for a couple days.

    Hello there doggies :), so cute, so far I had 4 dobermans, I miss a dog in the house.

One Year

I've been at my job for one year now. I've learned so much in that year that I didn't learn in school. I've become much more confident in my technical skills as well. Everything really just takes time, patience, and practice. I'm not afraid to try to place a catheter in a dehydrated kitten anymore. I'm not too much of a wimp to place a muzzle on an aggressive dog (within reason, of course) and surgery isn't nearly as scary as it once was. I've been lucky enough to work with some really amazing vets, techs, and kennel staff, who have made the transition from school to work not so bad. Pets for Life

In September, I volunteered with the Humane Society of the United States' vaccination and spay/neuter program called Pets for Life with my coworker, Angela. The Humane Society is such a great organization and I love how hard they work to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to get vet care for their pets. I worked in the "reactive" dog line with a vet from a local ER hospital vaccinating the dog or human aggressive animals. It was pretty amazing how many pets were getting vaccinated and leaving the house for the first time! We also educated owners about the importance and the benefits of spaying and neutering. Halloween Weekend

This past weekend was the weekend before Halloween, and I definitely got some partying out of my system. On Friday, my friend Jamie from school was having a Halloween party at her house (super close to the school.) I had kennel duty at school the next morning, so I thought it would be silly to go all the way to Chicago and back a couple times. I asked my mom if she had enough points to get me a room at the local Holiday Inn for the night to make things a little easier. (My mom is the midwest sales rep for Jelly Belly and racks up the traveling points.) Luckily, she was able to get me a room. I took a long nap after I got out of class because I'm just chronically sleep deprived in this program. I met up with another one of my friends from school, Gina, and we bought some alcohol and drank and got ready at the hotel before going to the party. The party was so much fun.
