Christmas 2013


This Christmas was really great. It started off with Tristan's work's holiday party on a boat at Navy Pier. It was so much fun. I took advantage of the open bar, danced with friends, and took lots of silly photos at the photo booth. The party theme was Yacht Rock, by the way...






My work party was an ugly sweater party at a bowling alley (and not nearly as exciting) but there were also free drinks and pizza. I also got a bonus!! My new job just treats me so well.



On Christmas Eve, I grabbed my friend Veronica's car from her roommate, Brianna, to use for holiday travels while she was in Mexico with her family. Tristan and I dropped our dogters off at Megan and Anton's and headed to my uncle JJ's (who also lives in Chicago, yay!) We exchanged gifts with my immediate family, and then everyone drove to the burbs to my great uncle Rock's to meet up with the rest of our family. We all caught up, played fun gift exchange games, and ate lots of food and sweets.

As it got later, Tristan and I had to head out to make another trek out to his hometown. His mom set us up in the basement and we got some sleep before eating an amazing breakfast with her in the morning. Next, we went to his dad's and met up with his sister there. We ate more yummy treats and exchanged more gifts. We both got some stuff we had really been wanting. We headed back to his mom's for dinner, and hurried home to get the pups from our friends.

The crown tradition continues...

One Year

I've been at my job for one year now. I've learned so much in that year that I didn't learn in school. I've become much more confident in my technical skills as well. Everything really just takes time, patience, and practice. I'm not afraid to try to place a catheter in a dehydrated kitten anymore. I'm not too much of a wimp to place a muzzle on an aggressive dog (within reason, of course) and surgery isn't nearly as scary as it once was. I've been lucky enough to work with some really amazing vets, techs, and kennel staff, who have made the transition from school to work not so bad. Don't get me wrong, there are days that are really difficult and make me question my career choice. Sometimes I just have too much on my plate and get overwhelmed. Pets for Life

In September, I volunteered with the Humane Society of the United States' vaccination and spay/neuter program called Pets for Life with my coworker, Angela. The Humane Society is such a great organization and I love how hard they work to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to get vet care for their pets. I worked in the "reactive" dog line with a vet from a local ER hospital vaccinating the dog or human aggressive animals. It was pretty amazing how many pets were getting vaccinated and leaving the house for the first time! We also educated owners about the importance and the benefits of spaying and neutering. Halloween Weekend

This past weekend was the weekend before Halloween, and I definitely got some partying out of my system. On Friday, my friend Jamie from school was having a Halloween party at her house (super close to the school.) I had kennel duty at school the next morning, so I thought it would be silly to go all the way to Chicago and back a couple times. I asked my mom if she had enough points to get me a room at the local Holiday Inn for the night to make things a little easier. (My mom is the midwest sales rep for Jelly Belly and racks up the traveling points.) Luckily, she was able to get me a room. I took a long nap after I got out of class because I'm just chronically sleep deprived in this program. I met up with another one of my friends from school, Gina, and we bought some alcohol and drank and got ready at the hotel before going to the party. The party was so much fun.
