Quick Update
Lately I've been feeling very burnt out as a veterinary technician. I was just fired from a clinic that I loved (by people who ran it terribly). I've never been fired before. I felt like I just wasn't being heard at all. My ideas meant nothing to them until they thought of the same ideas months later. They didn't understand how stressful it got being one of only two technicians (with no full-time assistants) and juggling helping reception, posting to the clinic's social media pages, helping a new practice manager (who has no experience in that role), and managing rescue groups and clinic pricing.
All of this left me feeling pretty empty, especially with how little us technicians make and how unappreciated we can be. I started to look for jobs in other fields to hopefully be less stressed out and to make more money. I was actually offered a sales and marketing job, but ended up turning it down. I started to miss helping dogs (and I guess the cats, too) so I signed up to volunteer with one of my favorite area rescue groups. I figured I would at least be able to help and experience my true passion of rescue work even if I stopped working as a technician.
After working a few relief shifts at other clinics, I started to feel valued and appreciated. It gave me hope that not all veterinarians and veterinary clinic business owners are out of touch with their employee morale. So, I started to apply at veterinary hospitals again. I've scheduled a few interviews this week, and I've got my fingers crossed for one in particular that seems to really value their employees and offers great benefits.
Has anyone else ever gone through something similar? How did you get through it?
I leave you with this:
