The next 2 months
Yesterday marked the first day of term 4 at Fox College. It's been known notoriously as the "make it or break it" term. That nickname in itself scares me. We were also missing 3 people the first day whose GPA's were too low for them to continue. I'm such a procrastinator and I tend to just "get by" in school and not apply myself. (Hey look, I'm procrastinating right now as I type this post.) I know I could get straight A's if I really tried, but I always find something to distract me. Maybe I'll turn over a new leaf...?
Last term, I trained one of the dogs at my school. Her name is Honey, she's about 10 months old, and she's a hound mix (but I think she's a Vizsla.) We got her from a shelter, like most of our animals, and she had Parvo. If you've ever watched Animal Planet, you've probably seen litters of puppies come in with parvovirus. It's a deadly and contagious gastrointestinal disease with a distinct smell. She was vomiting and had diarrhea for weeks. She was constantly crying in the isolation ward. I felt so bad for her. Luckily a plasma transfusion cured her. She's a fighter and I'm so happy she survived. I got really attached to her while I was training her. She was so good, and I worked on developing a plan to work on her fear aggression issues she developed while she had parvo. I'm trying to decide if I want to continue training her this term. On the one hand, the 1% extra credit we get in our Animal Technology course could help me, but on the other hand, my grade could stay the same like last term. I also don't know if I want to devote the time to training when I'm probably going to need every minute I have at school to study. I would also like someone who can actually eventually adopt her train her because I can't have pets at my apartment.
Honey was diagnosed with Giardia recently, which really made me mad. I know it has to be because someone put a "positive" sign on her cage when she wasn't positive. This sign was up for at least a few weeks. None of the school staff even bothered to check it. So, until I decided to check her charts myself (since I didn't see any symptoms) did the sign get taken down. There was not a single thing in her chart that said she was positive, and her last 2 fecals were negative. So she was being walked in our positive area all that time, for nothing. She's had disgusting diarrhea in her cage every day for the past couple weeks now. I feel so bad for her after everything she's been through. She deserves to be a happy, healthy puppy.
