Term 5

Image
I am now halfway done with school! I'm still constantly stressed out and sleep deprived, but knowing I've made it this far is a pretty good feeling. As I said before, I'm a kennel leader now. I shared my first day with Kyal, and things went pretty smoothly (aside from me being extremely tired.) I had my first day on my own this Monday with the newbies and it went really well! It wasn't my normal group because I was covering for someone, but I was so glad nothing crazy happened. That being said, one of the black scrubs (we identify each cohort by which color scrubs they wear and the black scrubs are right below us greenies) mentioned that their normal leader wasn't going to return from her trip until 6 am the next day. Knowing that there was no way she'd make it to kennels on time, I decided the right thing to do was to tell the kennel manager. Sure enough, the girl didn't show up the next day and made up an excuse. But now, my friend Gina is their leader, ...

Halloween Weekend

Image
This past weekend was the weekend before Halloween, and I definitely got some partying out of my system. On Friday, my friend Jamie from school was having a Halloween party at her house (super close to the school.) I had kennel duty at school the next morning, so I thought it would be silly to go all the way to Chicago and back a couple times. I asked my mom if she had enough points to get me a room at the local Holiday Inn for the night to make things a little easier. (My mom is the midwest sales rep for Jelly Belly and racks up the traveling points.) Luckily, she was able to get me a room. I took a long nap after I got out of class because I'm just chronically sleep deprived in this program. I met up with another one of my friends from school, Gina, and we bought some alcohol and drank and got ready at the hotel before going to the party. The party was so much fun. We started off by playing the usual beer pong, and listened to music. Before we knew it, it was a full house and...

Adoptions

Image
I recently took on the responsibility of managing the adoptions to the public at my school, with the help of 2 of my classmates. I've made some major changes to the Facebook page and I also made a Tumblr page . (Please like and follow them!) Our school is only allowed to have the animals for a certain amount of time. Once they're spayed/neutered, they usually go up for adoption to the students. If none of the students can take them, they go up for adoption to the public. My job is to try to get the word out to as many people as I can about these animals looking for homes so that they don't have to go back to the shelter we got them from. Dutchess needs a home as soon as possible, because her allotted time at the college is almost up. Nona has a little more time, but still needs a home ASAP! Nona is one of my favorite dogs. I would take her home in a heartbeat, if I could. In other news, I'm going to be a Kennel Supervisor next term! I'm really ex...

LUVD shoot

Image
Last month, I did a clothing video/photo shoot for LUVD with my friends Andrea and Nick . My friends Joel, Micah, and Colleen also participated in the shoot. It was so much fun shooting with my friends for a company that stands for a good cause. We skateboarded, turned Milwaukee into a jungle-gym, ate ice cream by the lake and just had fun being our goofy selfs. The video is still in the works, but here are a few shots from Andrea: I can't wait to see the rest of the shots and the video!

Mind Made Up

I decided super last minute last week to continue training Honey. I was in the dog kennel grabbing another dog for class and Honey gave me the sweetest "Mom?" face and whimpered as I left. She pretty much gave me no other choice. At the trainer meeting last week we were all asking Ms. Reyes and Mrs. Starkey why they chose certain animals for us to train and Ms. Reyes told me she chose Honey for me because I'm a kind, nice person, but I'll put my foot down when I need to and that's something Honey needs. (It was kind of freaky how well they knew us all already!) Today we had our weekly outdoor training meeting and Honey made me so proud. She walked nice, looked at me when I called her, and obeyed "sit" and "down" right away with no treats. Both teachers gave me high fives and Ms. Reyes said, "If I made a training video, this would be it." I love making that lady proud. :) I love her!

Double Date

Image
Last night, Tristan and I got dinner with some new (to me) friends, Dima and Lisa. I had met Dima about a year ago when Tristan and I were looking at apartments, but didn't see him again until a couple weeks ago when I was given the opportunity to shoot a commercial with his wife, Lisa. Lisa and I had a very long day, but when our boys came back at the end of the shoot, we all decided we needed to hang out again. So we had a double date at a yummy restaurant called Silver Cloud. Lisa and I ate grilled cheeses and tomato soup, and Tristan and Dima had fish steaks. (One of quite a few things I was noticing we had in common.) We had some great conversations and decided to stop by The Wormhole for some coffee before parting ways. It was so refreshing to hear them say they really appreciated us making plans to hang out with them and they really had a great time and already wanted to make plans to hang out again soon. I've missed having friends like that. This weekend is the gallery ...

The next 2 months

Image
Yesterday marked the first day of term 4 at Fox College. It's been known notoriously as the "make it or break it" term. That nickname in itself scares me. We were also missing 3 people the first day whose GPA's were too low for them to continue. I'm such a procrastinator and I tend to just "get by" in school and not apply myself. (Hey look, I'm procrastinating right now as I type this post.) I know I could get straight A's if I really tried, but I always find something to distract me. Maybe I'll turn over a new leaf...? Last term, I trained one of the dogs at my school. Her name is Honey, she's about 10 months old, and she's a hound mix (but I think she's a Vizsla .) We got her from a shelter, like most of our animals, and she had Parvo. If you've ever watched Animal Planet, you've probably seen litters of puppies come in with parvovirus. It's a deadly and contagious gastrointestinal disease with a distinct smell. Sh...
